RTÉ announces Anthony Long as General Manager of the RTÉ NSO

RTÉ is pleased to announce the appointment of Anthony Long as General Manager of the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra.  The Orchestra plays a central role in classical music in Ireland through year-long programmes of live performances, schools and educational projects, broadcasts, recordings and new commissions.

Anthony has held the position of General Manager of the RTÉ Concert Orchestra since 2003 with responsibility for the artistic, business and financial management of the ensemble. Anthony has also had responsibility for the development and implementation of strategy which has seen him devise a diverse and eclectic mix of programmes and events for a wide audience.

Speaking of this appointment, Aodán Ó Dubhghaill, Head of RTÉ Orchestras, lyric fm, Quartet & Choirs said: “I am delighted that Anthony is to join us to lead the team at the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra. Anthony brings many years of orchestral management experience to the role and is ideally placed to bring a National and International focus to the Orchestra and its wonderful players.”

Anthony has presided over the resurgence of the RTÉ Concert Orchestra’s connection with its audience, including mainstream film screenings with live orchestral performances, as well as being instrumental in the key appointments of Principal Conductors David Brophy and John Wilson.

Anthony will take up the position of General Manager of the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra with immediate effect.

The role of General Manager of the RTÉ Concert Orchestra will be advertised in the coming days. While this position is being filled, Gareth Hudson has agreed to step in as Interim General Manager.
