Kate interviews for a new job that seems just about perfect, although it comes with a catch. Randall doubts his career choice and wonders if he followed the right path. Kevin and Olivia’s relationship moves in a new direction. Rebecca and Jack are conflicted on what to do when Randall tests as a gifted child.
Jack grows weary of his job, so he makes a plan to jumpstart his career. Meanwhile, after he discovers his children find his career boring, Randall begins to question his path in life. Kate accepts a job as a personal assistant, but is tested by Jemma, her client’s teenaged daughter. Kevin struggles in rehearsals for his play; later, his co-star Olivia invites him on a peculiar date to help him unlock his feelings, leading to a romantic interlude. Jack balks at a new school for Randall, but after speaking to Yvette, the mother of one of Randall’s new friends, he reconsiders. Later, Jack opens up to his son, and Randall begins a new chapter in his education. Randall surprises his family at an elementary school “career day” by showing a side of himself he had kept hidden. Kate puts her foot down with Jemma, which in turn opens up a line of communication.
