Episode 2

In episode 2 our judges visit three very different homes in Dublin– a contemporary aluminium clad new build, a period home brimming with personality and a terrace on Dublin’s Southside.

Home 1:

Alec Darragh lives in an aluminium clad contemporary end of terrace home in North Dublin. Alec is a Company Director and also restores vintage racing bicycles. (www.oldvelos.com)

Alec, a cycling enthusiast, originally set out to build a garage, but ended up deciding to build an entire house.

Alec knew he wanted to build something modern and had a clear idea of what his requirements were – he wanted his living space on the top floor, a garage/workshop space for his bikes, a front terrace to relax in the evening sun and lots of light throughout the home. The result is a contemporary aluminium clad home flooded with natural light by floor to ceiling picture windows and a roof light that runs the length of the building.

Home 2

Company director Michele McNaughton lives in the period home she has put her own unique stamp on in the south side of Dublin.

Michelle McNaughtons’s 19th century home was initially renovated by her late father. When Michelle took the home on in 2008 she put her unique own stamp on the property, she opened up the front rooms and added an extension to the rear of the house. Michele loves to entertain and her large kitchen/diner allows her to do that with ease.  Comfort is a big priority for Michele, and the home is full of cosy couches and armchairs which provide corners to relax and curl up with a book. Michele’s eclectic style can be seen throughout the home, from chandeliers to red velvet curtains, antique shop finds and a charming collection of cuddly frogs, Michele’s house is brimming with her personality.

Home 3

Eric Dunne and Conor Hudson, live in a mid-terrace in Dublin city which they bought and moved into in 2016.

Eric and Conor’s love of mid-century furniture and industrial design can be seen throughout the home, including a kitchen table made from reclaimed scaffolding planks, a metal staircase and the use of birch plywood throughout the home including in the kitchen and bedrooms where it is used in the headboards and wardrobes. Eric and Conor’s favourite spot is on a comfortable chair in their kitchen where they can see right through the house and out to their back garden which they love.
