Eco Eye – Episode 3: ‘Ending Waste’
· From excessive bin charges to fly tipping, can Ireland rethink its relationship with waste?
Participation in recycling in Ireland is at an all time high, but we are still way off achieving ‘sustainability’ with regards to resources and waste, and with some new practices like increased green bin charges are we now going backwards? With Ireland fast running out of landfill space most of our waste is now going abroad.
It is a problem of consumption more than anything. Duncan will explore the impacts of irresponsible discarding of waste, such as daily disposables, as well as the upstream impacts of resource extraction and good manufacturing. He will make a case that urgent global action is needed to move towards a circular economy and end the waste crisis for good.
So what is being done in Ireland to reverse the trends? and what could be done?
Duncan will visit a collection of communities in Ireland taking action to end the waste problem for good.
