Ian Fox tells the tale of the many great musical works that failed on their first nights and how they came to be recognised in later years. In the final programme, the story of La Traviata & Verdi’s other early flops in particular the opera, Un Giorno di Regno, which almost caused him to quit writing operas in 1840.
