RTÉ’s A Legacy is returning for a second series. Last year three late icons of Irish life – Brian Lenihan, Tony Ryan and Páidí Ó Sé – were profiled and their legacies assessed in a series of individual, hour-long documentaries.

This year three more iconic figures are profiled as the lives of Veronica Guerin, PJ Mara and Terry Wogan are considered in brand new documentaries. Each programme talks to a mix of the people who knew each of them best, from their personal to their professional lives, offering new and revealing insights into each of these figures.

This new series will broadcast on Mondays at 9:35pm on RTÉ One, starting from May 9th with Veronica Guerin: A Legacy.

Veronica Guerin: A Legacy

This year marks the twentieth anniversary of the shooting of Veronica Guerin. As well as the tragic loss of a much-loved and talented reporter, Veronica’s brutal murder at the hands of the Gilligan gang was a watershed in Irish public life. Her death was described in the Dáil as an “attack on democracy” and the Government moved quickly to crack down on organised crime through the introduction of the Criminal Assets Bureau and other measures.

This documentary takes a timely look back at the life of Veronica, her work, and her murder. It asks whether her legacy has been honoured, as we find ourselves once more in the midst of a spate of brutal gun murders by drugs gangs. We hear from her husband, Graham Turley and her son Cathal; from friends and colleagues; and from the people who were key in the establishment and operation of CAB.

This programme will air on Monday 9th May at 9:35pm on RTÉ One.
