RTÉ Reaches Almost 2 Million Radio Listeners Every Week

 

RTÉ Radio 1 reaches 900,000 on weekdays– highest 000’s reach since 2009

 

RTÉ continues to reach almost 2 million radio listeners with 1,919,000 or 53% of the Adult 15+ population tuning in every week. On Monday to Fridays RTÉ reaches almost 1.3 million Adult 15+ everyday. The figures mean that 35% of the adult 15+ population listen to an RTÉ radio station on a daily basis.

 

PPI Station of the Year 2015,  RTÉ Radio 1 continues to be the only station with a weekday reach of 900,000. RTÉ 2fm maintains a strong daily reach 374,000, while RTÉ lyric fm increases its weekday reach year-on-year by 4,000, now reaching 138,000 adults in the adult 15+ age bracket.

 

Commenting on the latest figures Jim Jennings, Managing Director, RTÉ Radio says: “This is a fantastic result for RTÉ Radio, with our stations reaching reach nearly 2 million listeners every week.  Having made significant schedule changes on all of our stations, it is heartening to see that the listening public are reacting in a positive way. Across all genres from news and current affairs to music, from arts to documentary and sport, RTE’s suite of services delivers on its public service remit. Saturday with Claire Byrne and Sunday with Miriam are huge hits with listeners.

 

 

Today with Sean O’Rourke continues to grow with gains of 3,000 listeners (b-o-b) and a massive 33,000 (y-o-y) to 331,000.Todays figures are the highest for the show since 2009.

 

PPI Station of the Year 2015, RTÉ Radio 1, is Ireland’s go-to station for news and current affairs as Morning Ireland, News at One and Drivetime all achieved strong growth in the latest JNLR figures. With Morning Ireland’s figures rising to 448,000 listeners, it remains the country’s number one radio programme. Added to Morning Ireland’s gain, News at One’s huge 21,000 book-on-book increase and Drivetime’s 14,000 gain show that Ireland’s radio listeners rely on RTÉ Radio 1 to keep them abreast of the very latest news and current affairs at morning, afternoon and evening intervals.

 

LiveLine with Joe Duffy continues to have the nation talking with a growth of 16,000 (b-o-b) proving that programme is at the heart of every topical debate. And The Ray D’arcy Show continues to become a part of radio lovers afternoon choice with a jump of by 16,000 listeners book-on-book and by a huge 22,000 listeners since this time last year.

 

The RTÉ Radio 1 Weekend schedule proves to be the nations favourite, with Saturday with Claire Byrne gaining 39,000 listeners year-on-year to 245,000 and Sunday with Miriam growing strongly by 26,000 listener’s year-on-year.

  •  Morning Ireland remains the number 1 radio programme in Ireland with 448,000 listeners, a large increase of 9,000 (b-o-b) and a massive 22,000 (y-o-y).
  • The Ryan Tubridy Show is up 7,000 listeners on weekdays (b-o-b) and a huge jump of 19,000 (y-o-y) to 314,000.
  • Today with Sean O’Rourke has big gains of 3,000 listeners (b-o-b) and a massive 33,000 (y-o-y) to 331,000.
  • Liveline with Joe Duffy sees 387,000 listeners tune in every weekday, with a strong gain of 16,000 listeners (b-o-b).
  • News at One is the leading daytime news programme across Ireland with 346,000 weekday listeners, a gain of 21,000 (b-o-b) and a massive 34,000 (y-o-y).
  • The Ronan Collins Show is the biggest music programme in Ireland attracting 220,000 listeners, an increase of 5,000 (b-o-b) and a great growth of 11,000 (y-o-y).
  • The Ray D’Arcy Show continues a steady growth with an increase of 16,000 (b-o-b) and 22,000 (y-o-y) to 215,000.
  • Drivetime with Mary Wilson remains the leading national evening programme in Ireland with 240,000 listeners, up 14,000 (b-o-b) and 18,000 (y-on-y).
  • Playback made a huge jump of 26,000 (y-o-y) to 285,000.
  • Marian Finucane is still the leader at the weekend, with a gain of 26,000 (y-o-y) to 392,000 on Saturday & 328,000 listeners on Sundays.
  • Sunday with Miriam gained a whopping 26,000 listeners (y-o-y) to 265,000.
  • Saturday with Claire Byrne takes a huge jump of jump of 39,000 (y-o-y) to 245,000.
  • The Business increases again to 299,000, a huge gain of 13,000 (b-o-b) and 21,000 (y-o-y) on Saturday mornings.

 

 

Other gains across the RTÉ Radio 1 schedule include:

 

Ø  This Week grows by 25,000 listeners to 223,000 (y-o-y).

Ø  Papers/World Report/Bowman (a weekly archive programme) gained 12,000 (y-o-y) to 165,000.

  • News/Papers/Countrywide made a strong jump of 10,000 (b-o-b) to 204,000.

Ø  News/ Papers/ Sunday Miscellany gains a whopping 38,000 listeners (y-o-y)  to jump to 244,000 on Sunday mornings

Ø  Saturday Sport/Doc on One increases by 22,000 (y-o-y) to 198,000.

Ø  Sunday Sport increases by 4,000 (b-o-b) to 177,000.

Ø  The Weekend on One with Cathal Murray increases by 1,000 (y-o-y) on Saturday and 2,000 (y-o-y) on Sunday.

RTÉ 2fm has increased its weekly reach year-on-year by 9,000; now reaching 806,000 adults in the 15+ age bracket.

 

Commenting today, Head of RTÉ 2fm, Dan Healy says: “We are only three months into our new schedule and this JNLR indicates that RTE 2fm has consolidated its position among younger audiences.   We have just recently re-positioned both on and off air with a new identity and brand position for the station that we believe will resonate well with the youth audience and the growth in share we are seeing year on year for 15-34 year old’s is particularly heartening.  A huge welcome to all our newly recruited  listeners, a huge thank you to the listeners who stayed with us during the change and  major invitation to all listeners to tune in to RTE 2fm ‘The Sound of The Nation’

 

RTÉ 2fm Breakfast Republic, presented by Keith Walsh, Jennifer Maguire and Bernard O’Shea kick starts the morning with 181,000 listeners tuning in to top music and entertainment nationally. The Nicky Byrne Show with Jenny Greene sees 157,000 listeners tune in for a mixture of current music, lively chat and entertainment. From 1pm The Tracy Clifford Show pumps up the afternoon slump with 129,000 listeners catching the best tunes, interviews and banter. And rounding up peak-time The Eoghan McDermott show sees 117,000 listeners tuning in to catch Eoghan’s unique style of presenting, with exclusive interviews and the most-popular songs making commuters journey home a lot easier.

RTÉ lyric fm is celebrating robust figures as it reaches nearly 300,000 (296,000 +3,000 BoB/+7,000 YoY). listeners on a weekly basis. Marty in the Morning  proved hugely popular again with both book-on-book and year-on-year increases to 47,000 and stability across the day.

 

Liz Nolan’s Classic Drive gained 3,000 listeners (b-o-b) to 51,000 and on Saturdays, Aedín Gormley’s Movies & Musicals has increased its listenership by 8,000 since this time last year.

 

Aodan Ó Dubhghaill, Head of RTÉ lyric fm, said: At lyric we create music radio that is relevant (the Blue of the Night), stimulating (The Purple Vespertine), enlightening (Vox Nostra), challenging (Concerts/ Opera), new (Nova) and dare I say, even a little light hearted (The lyric Breakfast)! It is heartening to see so many listeners coming with us on the station Where Life Sounds Better.”

 

 

  • Marty in the Mornings has gained 2,000 listeners (b-o-b) and 9,000 listeners (y-o-y) to 47,000 listeners.
  • Niall Carroll’s Classical Daytime remains at 38,000
  • The John Kelly Ensemble remains at 30,000
  • Liz Nolans Classic Drive gains 3,000 (b-o-b) to 51,000.
  • Trish Taylor’s Daybreak on Saturdays is up 5,000 (y-o-y)
  • Movies and Musicals with Aedin Gormley on Saturdays increases 8,000 (y-o-y) to 47,000
  • Trish Taylor’s Daybreak on Saturday increases 4,000 (y-o-y) to 19,000
  • The Hamliton Scores on Saturday gained 3,000 listeners (b-o-b) to 47,000.
