THE LYRIC FEATURE

Ian Fox 2 Image Name: Ian Fox 2

The second programme in a new series in which Ian Fox tells the tale of the many great musical works that had bad starts in life.   Mahler’s Fourth Symphony bewildered Munich audiences in 1901, and Puccini’s Madama Butterfly was a huge failure on its first night in Milan in 1904. A year later Debussy’s La Mer caused uproar on both sides of the Atlantic. They all took time to make their reputations.
