A brother and sister who each undergo a double lung transplant. Ireland’s tallest man living with a condition called Gigantism. The social jiving teacher keeping marriages together. These are just some of the life experiences that can be heard on Out of the Ordinary, a new programme on RTÉ Radio 1 Extra presented by Brenda Donohue.

This programme will bring listeners inspiring and intriguing human interest stories from around Ireland. Out of the Ordinary reflects and celebrates the common, unexpected and quirky experiences of everyday people.

The stories come from the people themselves as they let us into their lives, sharing their challenges and bringing us along on their personal journey.

Brenda Donohue says: “Over the years working with RTÉ I have been lucky enough to travel the length and breadth of this country meeting people from all walks of life. They let me into their kitchens, offices, sheds and schools, to name a few, where they shared their personal stories with me.

I have always been fascinated with people and how they cope with the unexpected and with this new programme, I aim to bring listeners stories that will amuse and move you in equal measure.”

Brenda is an experienced and popular broadcaster who has the ability to put listeners at ease and has a track record of building trust between the presenter and interviewee.

Brenda has worked on Irish radio for 25 years and over that time she has met many unique individuals. She now wants to bring them to RTÉ Radio 1 Extra to tell their personal stories.
