AUDITIONEES JAI HO-PING FOR SUCCESS AS THE LATE LATE TOY SHOW HITS CORK

The Late Late Toy Show auditions hit Cork today with 18 young acts hoping to impress and make it onto the line-up for the biggest night on Irish television. There was enormous excitement as acts ranging from five-years-old upwards sang and danced their hearts out at the auditions held in The Metropole Hotel, Cork. Cheers went up when The Late Late Toy Show host Ryan Tubridy popped in and did an impromptu dance routine with a Bollywood dance group who are Jai Ho-ping they’ll secure a spot on the big night.

Ryan Tubridy said: “It is electric, the atmosphere. There is a buzz. It is magnificent. I think hitting the road was a valuable exercise because what we wanted to do was feel closer to the kids around the country. We are road testing it and judging by the way this first one has gone, it’s been a great decision”.

This is the first year that The Late Late Toy Show has travelled outside Dublin in search of young talent to entertain the nation and the response has been huge. The performers who will make it onto the show won’t be told until much closer to the November 27th broadcast and The Late Late Toy Show producer Katherine Drohan is already anticipating that it’s going to be incredibly difficult to pick between the auditionees.

Katherine Drohan said: “We have had an unprecedented number of entries. We viewed audition tapes from thousands and thousands of young entertainers, two to three times as many as we’ve had previously. The standard is very high and, already from these Cork auditions I can see that we are going to have a very tough time deciding who is going to perform on the night”.

Next stop on the tour is Athlone (Tuesday, October 13th) with Sligo to follow (Wednesday, October 14th).

There was also great excitement on the street in Cork as passersby took snaps of themselves with The Late Late Toy Show car to share on Twitter and Facebook using the hashtag #latelatetoyshow in the hope of winning the first two tickets for this year’s programme.

The competition will be running throughout all three days as The Late Late Toy Show car makes its way around the country with the winner to be announced on The Ryan Tubridy Show on RTÉ Radio 1. With more than 200,000 people applying for tickets to last year’s show, the competition represents a rare opportunity to get in ahead of the rush for the most coveted tickets in Ireland.
