SCANNAL  Horse Meat

TX 28th September 2015 RTÉ One 7.30pm

I ordered a burger the other day and they asked me if I wanted anything on it, and I said: ‘Yes — a fiver each way!’

Cén t-ainm a thugtar ar bhurgar dóite?  – Black Beauty!

Does anyone have a tooth pick? – I had a burger last night and there’s still a bit between my teeth!

January 2013 the Horse Meat Scandal initially shocked and then convulsed the nation with endless horse burger jokes.  Strange but true, a food scandal, which cut to the very heart of our confidence in the food we eat, had us rolling in the aisles, while Tesco burgers, along with a long list of other branded meat products were being withdrawn from sale after the Food Safety Authority of Ireland revealed that they’d discovered Horse DNA in products purporting to be beef.

But what started as another home grown scandal soon spread like wild fire right across Europe with even IKEA’s meatballs sourced in Czech Republic not passing the “Horse Free”  test and having to be withdrawn.

SCANNAL saddles up and takes a gallop through this equine mess   –  with a guest appearance from Karl Spain – just for laughs!
