Comedian John Bishop returns to Australia for a new adventure, cycling across the country meeting extraordinary people and experiencing true natural wonders in this entertaining travelogue.
John first made the journey from Sydney to Cairns in 1992, during a year-long trip cycling through Australia and back to Liverpool. But by spending all day on the road, he always felt he’d missed out on much of the country he rode through.
Now, 22 years later and using his original diary as a guidebook, John is back on his bike, reflecting on his own personal journey as he reconnects with his younger self. This time he’s taking plenty of breaks along the route to sample the delights of Australia, meeting some fascinating people as he discovers how this stunning country has changed.
Setting off from Sydney, John experiences a death defying abseil in the stunning Blue Mountains, gets hands-on with the most dangerous snakes on the planet, and finds out about the surprising bedtime habits of the most Australian animal of all: the koala…
In the beach town of Byron Bay, New South Wales, he is shown up by a gang of super-fit locals and tries his hand at surfing, and then encounters giant saltwater crocodiles as he heads further north toward Queensland.
In Rockhampton, the comedian goes cattle herding on horseback with the biggest beef baron in Australia, and it’s no laughing matter when he gets a little too close to the action at a rodeo. The comic pedals his way deep into tropical Australia, where he takes on an exhausting military test and rides a different type of bike to the one he’s become used to as he goes motorcycling with Vietnam veterans. He also gets dirty down under while working on a banana farm, before the trip concludes with a breathtaking trip to the Great Barrier Reef, the Daintree rainforest and a surprising personal twist.
