MAKE IT YOUR YEAR WITH RTÉ’S OPERATION TRANSFORMATION 5K RUNS

RTÉ’s Operation Transformation’s annual series of 5k runs are just around the corner and applicants will need to be quick to enter. This is one of the most important days on the Operation Transformation calendar, so don’t miss out.

The Operation Transformation 5k runs are being held in association with the Irish Sports Council, Dublin City Council, Athletics Ireland, the OPW, Cork Local Sports Council and Blarney Castle and will take place on Saturday the 21st of February.

Last year the run was fully subscribed weeks in advance and 8,000 people took part in the runs in Cork and Dublin, so don’t miss your chance to take part this year. This year Operation Transformation is encouraging first timers to register and take part in this special day, so whether your goal is to run, jog or walk the 5K, fitness expert Karl Henry has developed training plans to help you prepare for this big challenge and this can be found on our website.

Talking about this year’s run, expert Karl Henry said “Running is a simple and free way to get fit, tone up and deal with stress. If you can run 5K, you can change your life.”

The Dublin 5k run will take part in the Phoenix Park at 10am, while the Cork run takes place in Blarney Castle also at 10am. Applications to take part in the 5K run, will open after the show on Wednesday the 21st of January at 9pm. Log onto www.rte.ie/ot to register. There are 3,000 places available in Cork and 5,000 spots available in Dublin.

The 5k run represents the final challenge for our five leaders (Alan Mullen, Veronica Horgan, Eilish Kavanagh, Louise Ormsby and Mark McArdle) after 8 weeks of intensive changes to their lifestyles, diets and exercise. Be there to cheer them over the finish line!

Presenter Kathryn Thomas, John Murray, the four experts: Karl Henry, fitness expert, Dr. Eddie Murphy, a Principle Clinical Pyschologist with the HSE, Aoife Hearne – dietician and a member of the Irish Nutrition and Dietetic Institute and Dr. Ciara Kelly, GP and expert in family health will be out in force to support the leaders and participants and encourage the whole country to take an important step towards a healthier lifestyle.

Tune into our fives leaders’ progress on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8:30pm on RTÉ One. Follow the plan on www.rte.ie/ot. And listen to the John Murray Show Monday to Friday at 9am on Radio 1 for regular OT updates and Nicky Byrne on 2FM from 9am to 11am on Saturday mornings
