RTÉ One has enjoyed a strong start to 2015 with 724,000 TV viewers tuning in on Sunday 4th January to the first episode of Charlie, RTÉ’s brand new three-part drama, delivering an 43.5% audience share. An additional 21,000 watched the first episode of Charlie on RTÉ One+1.
In addition, 560,400 viewers (34%) watched the first episode of a brand new series of The Voice of Ireland which sees Una Foden of The Saturdays and Rachel Stevens of S Club Seven fame join Bressie and Cian Egan in the judges’ chairs. An additional 12,500 watched this first episode on RTÉ One+1.
After a strong showing over Christmas and New Year, some 560,400 tuned in to watch an explosive hour-long special of Fair City proving that Carrigstown has lost none of its appeal. 24,100 watched this episode on RTÉ One+1.
RTÉ’s news bulletins continue to be big draws for Irish TV viewers with RTÉ One’s Nine-O’Clock and Six-One news bulletins attracting 662,600 and 527,200 viewers respectively on Sunday 5th January 2015.
Speaking about the viewing figures, Adrian Lynch, Channel Controller for RTÉ One, said: This is great start to 2015 for RTE One. With Charlie and Fair City we delivered over two and half hours of strong original home-produced drama while the figures for The Voice of Ireland proves there continues to be a big appetite for Irish family entertainment shows.
This week promises more strong programming on RTÉ One with a brand new two part-series We Need to Talk About Porn, the return of Operation Transformation, Oíche na Gaoithe Móire, an Irish language documentary about the most terrifying night in pre-famine Irish history along with much more .
Last night’s figures come on the back of strong audience figures for RTÉ One on New Year’s Day, even with an increase in competition in the Irish market, RTÉ One delivered 7 of the top 10 most popular shows among Irish TV audiences (1 – 7 inclusive), while 8 of the top 10 most watched shows on New Year’s Eve were also on RTÉ One. RTÉ One also increased its New Year’s Day audience share by +4.3% versus 2014.
Meanwhile on RTÉ Player Charlie has so far attracted 13,000 streams on RTÉ Player, Fair City has just over 7,800 streams and The Voice of Ireland attracted 5,600 streams since being on-air last night.
