Blue Note@75 Part 4. Blue Note died a slow death in the late 1970’s (along with rest of the jazz recording industry) and was taken over by EMI in 1984, proceeding to implement a policy of appealing to music lovers who lived just outside the realm of pure jazz. It began to sign artists like Bobby McFerrin, Al Green and Norah Jones, whilst also projecting artists that had been confined to jazz audiences, like Cassandra Wilson, to wider acclaim. This policy continues today, with its leadership also recognising the core significance of jazz to its future prosperity.
