Eight young Irish & Australian marine animal enthusiasts embark on a gruelling six-week training mission to become dolphin and seal trainers, working with rescued marine animals, taking part in daring marine animal rescues and even helping out with the birth of a baby dolphin. 6 weeks, 1 mission…an epic adventure!
It’s 2.30am and the race is on to get to the marine park in time for the birth of dolphin Calamity’s calf. Will it be male or female and will the Rookies secure naming rights for Blue Zoo’s new arrival? As rehearsals continue to go awry park boss Paige decides to set the team a challenge ahead of a VIP visit in just 48 hours!
Just after 2am the call comes through to the Rookie house – dolphin Calamity has gone into labour and the Rookies need to be fast if they are to witness the birth. A fascinating insight into the delivery follows. Next on the agenda is establishing the gender of the dolphin calf as the rookies are charged with naming the new arrival. The Rookies set off on another adventure to Mutton Bird Island with aboriginal park ranger Mark. Back at the park, the dolphins and seals continue to give the Rookie trainers the runaround as they try to pull the show together. It’s not long before the Rookies will be presenting their debut show in front of the public and Paige decides to set them a challenge as a trial run. In 48 hours the park is welcoming some VIP guests and she puts the Rookies in charge and challenged them to stage their show dress rehearsal the VIP visitors.
