Audiences continue to grow for the 2014 FIFA World Cup on RTÉ Two as almost 700,000 tune into Argentina v Holland

Last night’s second 2014 FIFA World Cup semi-final which saw Argentina overcome Holland after a penalty shoot-out was watched by RTÉ Two’s highest audience of the tournament so far with an average of 695,900* people tuning in. This represents a 49.2% share of the available audience.

The average audience for the two 2014 FIFA World Cup semi-finals was 647,000*, which is over 100,000 higher than for the semi-finals in 2006.

This year’s semi-final programmes have achieved 20% higher average share than in 2010 and 11% higher share than 2006 programmes.

More than half of the male audience watching TV during the 2014 semi-finals tuned in to see RTÉ Two’s coverage of these games.

Meanwhile 138,700 watched RTÉ’s coverage live online and on mobile devices – via rte.ie/worldcup and RTÉ Player.
