RTÉ Sport will launch its comprehensive coverage of the 2014 GAA Championships tomorrow (Saturday 10 May, 2014) with a special broadcast of RTÉ Radio 1’s Saturday Sport. A unique live two hour radio special previewing all the summer’s action will come from the homes of the reigning All Ireland Champions, Dublin and Clare – with live broadcasts from St Vincent’s GAA Club in Dublin and Sixmilebridge GAA Club in Clare.
An all star line up of GAA analysts and presenters will be in both locations as RTÉ Sport announces coverage of its extensive Championship offering this year across television, radio, online and mobile.
In St Vincent’s GAA Club, Dublin Des Cahill will be joined by Pat Spillane, Colm O’Rourke and Kevin McStay as they discuss the upcoming Football Championship while in Sixmilebridge hurling panellists Ger Loughnane, Liam Sheedy and Eddie Brennan will join Marty Morrissey along with a number of special guests.
This year RTÉ’s engaging and top quality GAA coverage will be further enhanced by the broadcast of 20 games in high definition (HD) and the arrival of new signings, five-time All Ireland-winning footballer with Kerry, Tomás Ó Sé and twice an All Ireland Hurling winner with Tipperary, Brendan Cummins. This year also sees the return of Cork’s two-time All Star-winning goalkeeper Dónal Óg Cusack who will bring his forensic analysis of the Hurling Championship to Sunday Game viewers across the summer.

RTÉ Two Television
RTÉ Two Television will broadcast a comprehensive package of 31 live games, including 20 matches in high definition on RTÉ Two HD, across this summer’s GAA Championships including all six Provincial Finals, all Championship Qualifiers, four All Ireland Senior quarter-finals plus All Ireland Senior semi-finals and finals in both Hurling and Football.
For GAA fans summer officially kicks off on Sunday 18th May as The Sunday Game Live comes from Omagh where Tyrone face Down in the Ulster Senior Football Championship. Michael Lyster will be joined in Omagh by Colm O’Rourke, Joe Brolly and new panellist Tomás Ó Sé.
Now in its 36th year, Ireland’s premier GAA television programme, The Sunday Game, will also return on Sunday, May 18th with presenter Des Cahill in the chair. Des will be joined for highlights and analysis of the weekend’s Football action by Ciaran Whelan, Kevin McStay and special guest Colm “Gooch” Cooper. The Sunday Game will have highlights of up to 100 games throughout the season providing definitive analysis every single Sunday of the Championship summer.
RTÉ Two will also announce details of its Friday night magazine programme in the coming weeks.
RTÉ Radio 1
RTÉ Radio will this summer offer the very best action in hurling and football with a comprehensive range of commentary and analysis right through the GAA Championships. RTÉ Radio 1 will have exclusive national coverage of the top match on Saturday Sport and Sunday Sport. There will be full commentary on more than 30 matches across the Championship season as well as reports and updates from every other match.
Our team of commentators will include Ger Canning, Darragh Maloney and Pauric Lodge as well as our GAA correspondents, Marty Morrissey and Brian Carthy. These will be joined in co-commentary and analysis from some of the biggest names in hurling and football of recent years.
In addition to all the live action, Brian Carthy’s magazine programme, The Championship, will return to RTÉ Radio 1 on Friday evenings in June and Take Your Point will also be back on Sunday evenings, giving experts and fans their chance to air their views.
RTÉ Radio 1 bulletins throughout the day on Morning Ireland, Today with Sean O’Rourke and Drivetime will also have all the breaking news and all the issues that matter to the fans who follow the Championship, with extensive analysis and debate featuring also on RTÉ 2fm’s daily sports programme, Game On.
RTÉ Digital – Online and Mobile
Across its digital platforms RTÉ will have coverage of every moment in this year’s All-Ireland Football and Hurling Championships. With reporters at every single game, and live updates online, on mobile and on Twitter, GAA fans around the world can keep up to date on every score in 2014.
There will be regular columns from RTÉ’s unrivalled cast of football and hurling analysts on RTÉ.ie/GAA and a weekly GAA Championship podcast on iTunes and Soundcloud to round off each match weekend.
The regular live blogs, interviews, features, news and match reports will all be available on every platform and device via RTÉ.ie/GAA – and for the first time, live scoring, fixtures and tables can be accessed via the new RTÉ News Now app.
Across the island of Ireland, even if you are on the move, The Sunday Game Live and The Sunday Game highlights programme can be watched live via the RTÉ Player app on your mobile device or tablet – with all games also available as a live stream on rte.ie/sport. This coverage will also be available for catch-up on the RTÉ Player across the island of Ireland.
