RTÉ Two today have announced it will sponsor a brand new award category, The RTÉ Two New Voices Award, at this year’s National Student Media Awards, the Smedias.   The award will focus on finding fresh, new young broadcasting talent representing the diversity of contemporary Irish life, which is currently under-represented in broadcasting.

RTÉ Two delivers high quality public service programming for 15-34 year olds across a wide range of genres, including Irish comedy, factual entertainment and the best of international drama as well as sport and Young People’s programming.

The winner of this brand new award will be announced at The Smedias, the annual awards ceremony of the Student Marketing Network, one of the biggest nights in the Irish student calendar, on April 9th, 2014 in the Ballsbridge Hotel, Dublin 4.  The Awards will be presented by Republic of Telly presenter Kevin McGahern.

The overall winner will receive the much coveted prize of a work placement with RTÉ Television during the summer of 2014, where they will be given mentored production training, both on and off screen, across a variety of departments.   The category is open to all full-time and part-time students across Ireland, with the exception of students who have worked professionally within the media industry.

Commenting on the sponsorship, Bill Malone, Channel Controller for RTÉ Two said; ‘Championing and supporting new Irish talent is a key public service of RTÉ Two.
