RTÉ News is pleased to announce the appointment of RTÉ journalist, Caitríona Perry, as Washington Correspondent.

Caitríona Perry has worked as a journalist in RTÉ since 2007, reporting across television and radio news including the Six One and Nine O’Clock news programmes, Morning Ireland, the News at One, Drivetime and other RTÉ programmes. She was awarded the National Justice Media Award in 2012 for Best TV News for her coverage of the government’s handling of St Patrick’s Institution for juvenile offenders. She has also worked as a newscaster for RTÉ Radio 1, 2FM and Lyric FM.

As part of her journalism degree at Dublin City University, in which she graduated with a first class honours degree in 2002, Caitríona spent five months studying at Boston University. She began her career at Newstalk and then moved to Today FM where she worked as the Courts Correspondent and Acting Deputy Head of News before joining RTÉ in May 2007.

Caitríona was awarded a Masters degree in International Relations from DCU in 2010. She speaks French, German, Spanish and Italian.

She recently traveled to Australia to cover the sentence hearing of Adrian Bayley who murdered and raped Irish woman Jill Meagher. While there, she also filmed and produced a series of reports as a video journalist, on the Irish in Australia for the RTÉ Six One and Nine O’Clock News programmes, Morning Ireland and Nationwide.

Caitríona hails from Dublin where she lives with her husband.

Commenting on her new role Caitríona Perry said: “I’m thrilled and utterly delighted. The Washington Correspondent is such an important role, one I’ve wanted and worked towards for a long time. I just can’t wait to get started!”.

She will be taking up the post in the coming weeks.
