Its heat two and Nick and Dylan welcome the next six cooks of the heats into the MasterChef kitchen.  All six have just one hour to impress Nick and Dylan with their signature dish and earn their place in the next stage of the competition.  Entering the kitchen is Mark, Cormac, Diana, Sarah, Bill and Hugh.  And when today is over – only the best will go through to the next stage. The environment of the MasterChef kitchen can be difficult on your first day, so how will the next six amateurs far with their signature dishes?

Twenty year old student Mark from Dublin is the youngest amateur cook in the competition this year, “It seems like it can be intimidating, I’m really excited and I want to show them what I can do really”

Stay at home mum, Sarah from Roscommon has been has been nervous for weeks and is a big MasterChef fan.  “I still feel as if I am looking at the telly, when I see the two lads, they don’t seem real at all, they are like holograms”.

Hugh from Derry is hoping that Nick and Dylan are looking for someone that has a good eye for flavor balance and a demonstration of proper techniques – but is he trying to hard?

Bill from Alabama watches a lot of cookery shows and he is looking forward to testing himself and he is choosing to cook a hometown favourite, but will Nick and Dylan be impressed?

But who will they put through to the next stage and their first restaurant service?

Heat Two

Episode 4 – Wednesday, 12 March 2014 – 8.30pm

Heat two – day two – and last night Hugh, Mark, Diana and Bill impressed Nick and Dylan the most with their signature dishes.

It’s an early start with a busy day ahead.  These four cooks will join the kitchens of two of Dublin’s top restaurants for their first ever professional lunchtime service.  For Mark and Diana – The Winding Stair – one of Dublin’s best loved dining experiences.  Across the city, Hugh and Bill will join the kitchen at Brasserie Le Pont one of Dublin’s most popular new restaurants.

Their task is to produce a course to the same exacting standards as a top-level chef.  It’s a baptism of fire for the four amateur cooks.  Following a grueling lunch service, they all return to the MasterChef kitchen to cook for their place in the final ten.

Facing Nick and Dylan once again, they must complete the Key Ingredient challenge.  Their ingredient is beef and they are faced with a choice of beef heart, fillet, round steak and rib eye.  They have 1 ½ hours to impress.

After a hectic service, Hugh finds coming from the professional kitchen, back to the MasterChef kitchen with only four people, sobering in a way.

With a place in the top ten at stake, one bad decision could make all the difference today and it’s up to Nick and Dylan to decide who deserves a place in the final ten.
