Featuring spectacular walks and cycle tracks in stunning locations all over the country, the programmes will be presented by a different personality each week in this five episode series.
Episode 4: Mayo
Sunday Times writer Declan Cunningham joins broadcaster Kathriona Devereux on the north tip of Mayo as they walk the cliffs of Carrowteigue and admire the stunning beauty of Broadhaven Bay.
The North Western corner of Co. Mayo is one of Ireland’s most remote areas and it is here that Kathriona Devereux explores a challenging walk with writer and walking guide Declan Cunningham.
The trail begins in Carrowteigue in the heart of the Dún Chaocháin Gaeltacht where the Irish language is still part of everyday life, and ends 16km later in Portacloy Beach.
Kathriona and Declan meet conservation ranger Irene O’Brien who spends much of her time on the Mayo coast keeping a watchful eye on the wildlife population. With Kid Island behind them, Kathriona and Delcan turn eastwards towards the walk’s highest point, Benwee Head, before passing the forbidding heights of the shipwrecker’s cove, An Príosún.
