Ronan O’Gara signs up as RTÉ Sport kicks off its 2014 RBS 6 Nations coverage

RTÉ Sport today (Thursday 30 January, 2014) announced details of its comprehensive coverage of this year’s RBS 6 Nations across TV, Radio, Online and Mobile, which sees Ireland and Munster legend Ronan O’Gara make his RBS 6 Nations debut with RTÉ Sport’s unrivalled team of panellists for RTÉ Two’s three live games this weekend.

Ronan joins Conor O’Shea and George Hook in studio with Tom McGurk on RTÉ Two for Saturday’s double bill of Wales v Italy and France v England and will be pitchside at the Aviva Stadium alongside Shane Horgan on Sunday as Ireland get their campaign up and running against Scotland. All three games will also be live on RTÉ Player.

In addition Ronan will join Damien O’Meara on RTÉ 2FM’s Game On each Thursday night to give his insight on how the tournament is progressing. The programme will offer Irish Rugby fans a chance to submit questions to Ronan via text or social media each week.

On Saturday RTÉ Radio 1’s Saturday Sport with Des Cahill will have updates from Wales v Italy and France v England while on Sunday Jacqui Hurley and Darragh Maloney present Sunday Sport including Michael Corcoran’s live commentary on Ireland v Wales from the Aviva Stadium.

Friday night (31 January) sees RTÉ Two begin live coverage of the U-20s 6 Nations when Ireland take on Scotland live from Dubarry Park, Athlone. Daire O’Brien will be joined by Eddie O’Sullivan with commentary from Gary Moran and Tony Ward.

Following the Ireland Women’s triumphant 2013 6 Nations campaign, RTÉ Sport will have live coverage on RTÉ 2FM’s Game On and online this Friday (January 31) as they begin the defence of their title against Scotland in Ashbourne. Michael Corcoran will be joined by Rosie Foley for full match commentary.

Against The Head returns to RTÉ Two on Monday evenings and each week Daire O’Brien and guests will take a look back at the weekend’s action and preview the upcoming matches.

Ryle Nugent, Group Head of Sport RTÉ, said: “RTÉ Sport is delighted to welcome Ronan O’Gara to our fantastic team of panellists and presenters for this year’s RBS 6 Nations. Ronan brings a fresh insight to RTÉ Sport’s already unrivalled Rugby analysis. RTÉ Sport’s comprehensive RBS 6 Nations coverage demonstrates RTÉ’s commitment to our national teams and major sporting events and is an important part of our role as a public service media organisation, ensuring that Irish sports fans are able to enjoy and support Irish International Rugby free-to-air.”
