This autumn Philip Boucher Hayes is taking on the fight against food waste.

In Ireland, we throw out one third of all the food we buy. That’s an average of €700 per household going from our wallets into the bin. For the Irish restaurant sector, it’s even worse. It’s losing €125 million a year to food waste. But it’s not just about our individual pockets. Food waste is a global issue that’s impacting on the environment and with the world’s population growing, so is the demand on food and food prices.

Things have got to change. The question is “Where do we start?”. The answer: “with one Irish town leading the way”.

Philip Boucher Hayes joins the businesses and residents of Killorglin in County Kerry as they attempt to stop the waste.

Because if one Irish town can do it – maybe the whole country can.
