Selling hand made red carpet dresses is nothing new to Fashion Designer/Maker Edel MacBride who welcomed novice knitter Derek Montgomery, ICA member Sandra Bogan and recent Limerick College of Art and Design fashion graduate Rebecca Marsden into her studio in textile rich CountyDonegal.
Speed knitter Derek, initially faced an uphill battle convincing the judges of his choice of design while for part-time farmer Sandra using knitting machines was a world away from learning at her mother’s lap. Rebecca made an evening dress to stand as a ‘halo’ piece for a potential fashion collection. All three apprentices worked tirelessly to produce unique and desirable pieces.
With three beautifully designed fashion pieces showcasing the talent and creativity of each apprentice, who will be selected to appear in the final of Craftmaster 2? Finalists will compete for the title and the opportunity to kick-start a whole new career in craft with a stand at Showcase Expo, Ireland’s international trade expo run by the Crafts Council of Ireland. Deciding who wins is a panel led by Sonya Lennon, who is joined by resident Judge, Brian McGee, from the Crafts Council of Ireland along with two of Ireland’s top designers, Paul Costelloe and Louise Kennedy.
