In Washington, D.C., Philip reunites with Irina, a KGB agent who holds a special place in his past. Together they work to discredit a popular – and seemingly incorruptible – pro-democracy activist who is making progress in Poland’s struggle for independence from mother Russia.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth tries to bring a high-placed defense systems consultant with a degenerate gambling problem back into the KGB fold, but discovers the ultimate decision may not be his alone to make. As Philip and Elizabeth try to move past their own mutual feelings of distrust, Elizabeth gets a firsthand look at growing tensions inside the Beeman home. Also, Irina drops a bombshell and makes Philip a tempting offer, Elizabeth makes no secret of her disdain for Claudia, and Stan’s relationship with Nina veers down a slippery slope.
