Programme 4: Neven travels to London in this week’s programme where he gets a masterclass in baking the perfect Tarte Tatin from Gordon Ramsey’s head chef Clare Smyth in the three Michelin star Gordon Ramsey Restaurant. Back home in his own MacNean House restaurant, Neven demonstrates a delicious deconstructed Prawn Cocktail and Pizza Bread, and he also prepares Beef Satay with Pickled Cucumber.

Award winning chef Neven Maguire returns to RTÉ One with his fourth series of Home Chef, sponsored by Bord Bia, and this time it’s for confident cooks who want to take their cooking to the next level – bucking the trend of other cookery series with their emphasis on ‘easy meals’ and ‘simple suppers’. But never fear, Neven explains the more complex dishes and techniques in his inimitable and accessible style, a style that has made him the most popular chef on Irish television.

Each week, Neven enjoys a masterclass from other top chefs – no fewer than seven Michelin-starred restaurants are featured in the series, including  Restaurant Gordon Ramsey in London (3 stars) Lea Linster Restaurant in Luxembourg (1 star) and Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud in Dublin, Ireland’s only 2 star restaurant. Other superb restaurants include Waterford Castle, Restaurant 41, L’Ecrivain (1 star) and Chapter One (1 star).

Neven’s popularity stems partly from the fact that he is so generous with his knowledge and his recipes, so once again he shows viewers how to recreate many of the dishes from his famous, award-winning MacNean Restaurant, divulging many  trade secrets, as well as the names of many of the suppliers to his Cavan restaurant.

This brand new series will appeal to foodies, experienced home cooks and Neven’s many fans, and is filmed on location in Blacklion, Co Cavan and in restaurants around the country, as well as in London and Luxembourg.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting some of Ireland’s great chefs while making this series and picking up tips about what makes their restaurants a success” he says.

“Everyone I met was keen to stress the value they place on sourcing quality ingredients. Many highlighted the importance of knowing their suppliers and ensuring that the food they purchase carries the Bord Bia Quality Mark so they know it has been produced to Bord Bia’s highest quality standards.”
