National Concert Hall
RTÉ Concert Orchestra

Jue Wang piano
Gavin Maloney  conductor

Celebrate the Chinese New Year with a joyous meeting of Chinese and Irish favourites such as Spring Festival Overture, Yellow River Piano Concerto, Riverdance and Lord of the Dance.

The RTÉ Concert Orchestra are joined by rapidly rising star Jue Wang – ‘the most exciting young pianist yet to emerge from China’ (Independent). Wang has already made successful débuts at Carnegie Hall and Wigmore Hall, and won the 51st ‘Maria Canals’ Barcelona International Musical Execution Competition (2005) and the XVIth Paloma O’Shea Santander International Piano Competition (2008). He takes on the brilliantly virtuoso solo part of the Yellow River Piano Concerto. This most famous Chinese piano concerto is of historical as well musical importance, composed by a committee during the Cultural Revolution using themes from a patriotic piece written during the Sino-Japanese War in 1939.

So join in this musical marriage of traditions to ring in the Chinese New Year 2013 – the Year of the Snake.

Presented by the National Concert Hall, RTÉ Concert Orchestra and Shanghai East Radio Company in association with the Dublin Chinese New Year Festival (DCNYF 2013)
