The RTÉ Concert Orchestra is proud to announce three more major stars performing with the orchestra in 2013. Bass-baritone Bryn Terfel, jazz vocalist Kurt Elling and soprano Danielle de Niese are acclaimed worldwide as the best in the business. Opportunities to hear them live in Ireland are scarce enough – performances with a full orchestra are rarer and more precious still.
These three extraordinary artists join the line-up for the RTÉ CO’s Signature Series 2013, which opens with the previously announced concerts by violinist Nicola Benedetti and singer Ute Lemper. Bringing performers from various genres together with the RTÉ CO, the Signature Series showcases the world’s finest musicians in classical, jazz, cabaret and more, as well as the orchestra’s own stylistic range, vitality and flair. All concerts take place at the National Concert Hall.

Danielle de Niese made such an impact in her Irish début with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra in August that both she and the orchestra immediately started exploring when another concert date together might be possible. A stage natural, with a glorious voice and tremendous expressive power, she is ‘not just a superb performer but a phenomenal one’ (Opera News) – as the Los Angeles Times critic wrote ‘ I’m not sure there is anything de Niese couldn’t do.’ The RTÉ CO is delighted to welcome this stunning soprano back for a performance on Saturday 9 March.
Dynamic and creative, a brilliant baritone, scat singer, improviser and interpreter, the remarkable Kurt Elling has been hailed by The New York Times as ‘the standout male vocalist of our time’. In a rare treat, Irish audiences can hear him in action with a full orchestra when he joins the RTÉ CO for the first time on Tuesday 21 May.
Bryn Terfel is a superstar, a towering presence in the music world, whether on the operatic stage, in the concert hall or in the recording studio. He has become one of the most celebrated singers of the past quarter-century, not only for his incredible voice but for his extraordinary charisma and commanding presence. Having performed with him in 2003, the RTÉ CO looks forward to welcoming Bryn Terfel back on Saturday 22 June.
A striking feature of all the artists in the RTÉ CO Signature Series is their power as performers. Apart from their musical genius and technical artistry, they are born communicators. This is a perfect fit with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra’s reputation for engaging with its audiences and delivering vibrant, thrilling performances.
Ticket prices have been kept as competitive as possible to make these concerts as accessible as possible.
