Preferring for most of her life to stay close to her native Washington D.C., Shirley Horn was one of the greatest of the slow ballad singers, with an instinct for timing second to none. For many years she was a well-kept secret, admired by those in the know, especially jazz musicians. Her friend Miles Davis named her as his favourite singer. She was nominated 9 times for Grammy Awards, winning at the 41st Awards for her album “I Remember Miles”.
