RTÉ Concert Orchestra features in World Soundtrack Award 2012 Nominees

Brian Byrne’s song Lay Your Head Down, as recorded by Sinead O’Connor and the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, has been nominated for another prestigious award.

Lay Your Head Down, from the score to Albert Nobbs, has been shortlisted in the category ‘Best Original Song Written Directly for a Film’, along with songs performed by Madonna, Mary J. Blige, Florence + The Machine and Academy Award winner Bret McKenzie. (Full list of nominees below.) The winner will be announced at the World Soundtrack Awards & concert on 20 October, the closing night of the Ghent International Film Festival.

This follows an IFTA and a place on the Oscar longlist for the Albert Nobbs score and a Golden Globe nomination for Lay Your Head Down.

The Albert Nobbs soundtrack was recorded in RTÉ Radio Centre by the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, conducted by composer Brian Byrne. Brian has paid tribute both to the RTÉ CO’s enormous contribution to the soundtrack and to the orchestra’s versatility, ‘unmatched in Europe’. That versatility will be shown to full advantage in an upcoming album of Brian’s music performed by the RTÉ CO with star guests, full details of which will be announced shortly.
