RTÉ’s new midweek GAA show hits the airwaves this Thursday!
In studio will be Meath marksman Cian Ward, fresh from his team’s win against Wicklow on Sunday. He will be joined by a man who wishes he was gearing up for another championship year, castaway Donegal defender Kevin Cassidy, as well as Kieran Shannon of The Sunday Times.

Top of the list of topics is the implications Seanie Johnston’s transfer from Cavan to Kildare which has been given the go ahead this week. While the move has been widely criticised our guests will discuss the pros and cons and all the implications.

Ahead of Wexford’s clash with Offaly, Wexford legend Larry Murphy remembers when the two sides met in the historic Leinster Final in 1996. Why was Larry O’Gorman thumbing a lift? Find out on Thursday.

The show will also be looking forward to the return of the All Ireland Champions to championship action when Dublin take on Louth on Sunday, as well as all the weekend’s other games.

The league is over and the first championship games have thrown in. The long road to Croke Park in September starts now! With 88 games to be decided in the All Ireland Football and Hurling Championships, there is a lot to be discussed before Liam and Sam find new (or maybe not-so-new) homes this September.

Every Thursday on RTÉ Two you can get your midweek fix of GAA television with Championship Matters.

The show will be the first port of call for in-depth discussion and features as the championships wind their way to those elusive September Sundays. Broadcast live from studio, the show will be discussing in depth all the issues of the GAA summer, and setting the agenda with some of the country’s best known players, managers and commentators.

Clichés are banned in the Championship Matters studio. You won’t find any “game of two halves” here, just honest, no holds barred opinion and discussion, with Marty Morrissey the man in the middle asking the questions that GAA fans want answered.

Throw in previews of the big weekend games, where sitting on the fence is against the rules, some good old fashioned nostalgia and input from you, the viewers, and you have yourself a winning championship combination.

Each week the public will have an opportunity to have their say on the topics discussed on a Thursday evening. You can get in touch now via Twitter @RTÉChampMatters or through The Sunday Game Facebook page.

Get yourself comfortable, there is a long summer ahead, and Championship Matters is where the sparks will fly!
