From the State Opera, Vienna
I Puritani by Vincenzo Bellini
The action takes place against a background of the civil war between the Cavaliers and the Roundheads in 17th century England. Désirée Rancatore is Elvira, loved by both José Brods as Arturo, a royalist, and Marius Kwiecien as Riccardo, a Puritan, who between them drive her to madness but she recovers ultimately and all’s well that ends well.
The Chorus and Orchestra of the Vienna State Opera are conducted by Jan Latham-König.
Presented by Bernard Clarke.
