RTÉ RADIO 1 DOCUMENTS IRISH MAN’S AMERICAN DREAM

Tipperary man John Moylan features in My Bones Won’t Rest Here

Tune into RTÉ Radio 1 from 6.00pm on Saturday 24 April for My Bones Won’t Rest Here, a fascinating documentary on the life of Nenagh man John Moylan who, like many people of his generation, emigrated from Ireland to the United States.

The RTÉ Radio 1 documentary recounts how, over 60 years ago, an elderly cousin’s wedding changed one Irish man’s life by acting as the catalyst to send him on a journey to the United States where he found love, hope and a resting place for when he dies. With as many as 36 million Americans claiming Irish Ancestry, documentary maker Cian McCormack tells the personal story of 82-year-old John Joseph Patrick Moylan who like so many before and after him, found a new life across the Atlantic.

Six years after meeting John Moylan for the first time in San Francisco, Cian McCormack re-unites with his elderly friend, who has returned back home for a special civic reception honouring his life’s achievements.

Interestingly, John Moylan explains that although he loves and misses both his and Cian’s hometown of Nenagh, County Tipperary, he won’t let his bones rest there when he dies. He has already bought a grave and a headstone with his name on it in San Francisco.

Tune into RTÉ Radio 1’s Documentary on One on Saturday 24 April at 6.00pm

My Bones Won’t Rest Here is produced and presented by Cian McCormack with production supervision Liam O’Brien.
