RTÉ RADIO 1’S SPORT AT 7 TALKS TO STEVE DAVIS
Tune into RTÉ Radio 1 this evening as Sport at 7’s Damien O’Meara talks to the legendary snooker player Steve Davis ahead of his thirtieth appearance at The World Snooker Championships in Sheffield, tomorrow.
In this in-depth interview Steve talks about a series of subjects such as why his former manager, Barry Hearn, is the man to drive snooker forward. He also speaks about Belfast’s, Mark Allen, who he believes is a credible outsider for the World Championship.
The competition isn’t quite as straight forward as it used to be for the six time champion – this year he had to win a series of qualifying matches to enter as he’s dropped out of the world’s top 16. It’s also 25 years since he and Denis Taylor played in that famous final that ended in the early hours of the morning. This legendary game was viewed by 18 and a half million people.
With the competition getting tougher for Steve, he talks about what still drives him to compete at the World Championships and why the Crucible Theatre is still the main event in the game’s calendar. He goes on to talk about how he has had to change the way he approaches the event by concentrating purely on the game itself and blocking out any other distractions.
Tune into Sport at 7 tonight on RTÉ Radio 1 at 7.00pm
Sport at 7 is presented by Damien O’Meara and is produced by Roy Willoughby.
