Programme 6

This week, Duncan is visiting Kilshane in north County Dublin to meet a couple who are building a house on a very unusual site. Jane Carrigan and her family have lived in Kilshane since 1983, and now Jane wants to stay close to her brothers and sisters by building beside their old house at Kilshane crossroads…

However over the past few decades their patch of land has changed drastically. Their old family home and the few acres around it are now completely surrounded by national roads and motorways, not to mention that it sits right in the middle of the red zone flight path into Dublin airport.

Duncan meets the owners and their architect to find out why they are so keen to build here and how they plan to overcome their obstacles.

Also this week, Tania visits an early contemporary house in Dalkey with a very unique extension.
