Richard Corrigan is a man on a mission – he is determined that everybody should have slice of the good life. In the first episode of his new series Corrigan’s City Farm, Richard has set himself an enormous challenge. He wants to prove that it’s possible to set up a farm on waste land in a city location and train an army of volunteers to run it

Richard Corrigan grew up on a small holding in County Meath, so he’s just the man to help our volunteers take on the most amazing challenge of their life. He’s convinced it’s possible for everyone to have a slice of fresh country life, even in an urban environment.

To prove his point Richard is off to Cork where he’s found 24 willing volunteers and given them a plot of land in the heart of the city. The novice gardeners will be getting back to basics, growing fresh, seasonal food while fighting everything from drought to greenflies.

Can our inner city volunteers rise to the challenge and transform a plot of derelict wasteland into a lush and fertile smallholding? Can Richard start a national allotment revolution?

Cork City Council have agreed to provide a brown-belt site for the families to cultivate and Richard is convinced he’s found a viable and economic blue print for any community. The benefits could be considerable, fresh air, exercise and seasonal food, not to mention the savings that can be made in the weekly shopping.

Programme 2

In Episode two of Corrigan’s City Farm it’s time to get down and dirty. Richard’s 24 volunteers and novice gardeners start the big dig to transform their plots of waste land into hopefully, a fertile oasis. Just to complicate things the chickens and pigs arrive, and already our volunteers are being thrown in at the deep end coping with live farm animals. Also Richard decides to find out what it really goes into making cheap rashers – it’s not a pretty sight.
