Pride of the Parish – Fri 17 Apr at 8.30 p.m. on RTÉ One
It is believed that the strength of our Gaelic Games lies at local level: every parish, village, town, suburb and city in Ireland is represented by the colours of its local team and each has its own identity, usually sharpened by an intense rivalry with the neighbours down the road.
To celebrate 125 years of the GAA Pride of the Parish, RTÉ One’s new six- part documentary series, will offer snap shots of six very different clubs. From Ollie and Joe Canning in Portumna to Mickey Harte in Errigal Ciarán to Val Andrews at Ballymun Kickhams, it follows some of GAA’s best-known faces as they explore what their local clubs mean to them.
Kicking off the series, Galway hurling stars Joe and Ollie Canning open doors to their family and their beloved club, Portumna, and reveal how it has brought them to where they are today.
