Film:   Funny Games by Michael Haneke (Hidden)
A US remake of Haneke’s original 1997Austrian film, Naomi Watts and Tim Roth play a middle class couple whose family holiday turns nightmare when they are abducted by two sadistic young men.

Film:    Redacted by Brian de Palma
The latest in a batch of feature films about America’s adventures in Iraq and Afghanistan, Brian de Palma uses all kinds of documentary-style devices – blogs, CCTV footage, video shots – to tell his passionate views in Redacted (a military term meaning censored).

Book:  The Private Lives of Pippa Lee by Rebecca Miller
Wild child Pippa Lee gets an unexpectedly happy ending when she meets and marries Herb Lee, a wealthy, respected, charismatic publisher 30 years older than her. Or does she? Two grown-up children later, a move to a retirement village soon shows the cracks in a polished facade.

Art:  Venice at Farmleigh
Two artists, Gerard Byrne and Willie Doherty represented Ireland at the 2007 Venice Biennale. Their film installations, respectively *ZAN-*T185…. and Ghost Story, are now in exhibition at Farmleigh Gallery, Phoenix Park. A third installation, also by Byrne, Hommes à Femme (Michel Debrane) completes the show.
