Direct from his eye-catching appearance on the RTE documentary ‘ The Pressure Cooker’, Dylan Mc Grath is the sixth and final participant in the first series of Guerrilla Gourmet.
His unique challenge is to cook an eight course gastronomic meal but with one unique twist. This time, the diners have to eat in total darkness!
Rewarded with a Michelin star for his incendiary culinary talent, Dylan is undeniably one of the most visually impressive chefs in Ireland.
So how will he cope when he can no longer dazzle with spectacular presentations on the plate?
All chefs are taught that the first bite is with your eyes. But Dylan will have to rely on taste and flavour alone if he is to wow his twenty-four guests: all of whom have spend €160 for this once in a lifetime experience.
In preparation for the big night, Dylan visits the Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind in Cork where he prepares a fish meal for eight clients and experiences the need for trust as he goes for a walk with a guide dog.
His waiting staff spends a week training blindfolded but can they master service in an unfamiliar room without any visual clues? Meanwhile, Mc Grath’s sommelier Pierre is determined to serve over 100 glasses of wine in the blackened room. Can the night survive without any spillages or breakages?
And when all sense of sight is removed, will the diner’s sense of taste be heightened?
