SERIES II Programme 4

The Dealers set two pairs of antiques enthusiasts against each other to brave the highs and lows of buying and selling antiques at auction.

THE DEALERS
The Dealers are George Stacpoole, well-known antique dealer and President of the Irish Antique Dealers Association, and Niall Mullen, who grew up in the antiques trade and now specialises in Art Deco. Their challenge is to make sure their teams heed their advice and don’t lose their heads when the bidding begins!

THE TEAMS
The curtain rises this week on two teams from rival musical societies.  St Mary’s Choral Society, Clonmel and Carrick on Suir Musical Society hope that that they can be as successful at auction as they are on stage.

The story unfolds at O’Keeffe’s auction rooms where the Clonmel team – Siobhan and Marie keep it choral and can’t resist buying a music cabinet. Meanwhile Breda and Paddy on the Carrick team spot a brass fender that they think has potential.

Also in the programme horologist Kevin Chellar gives us a short history of Irish clock-making and explains that stylistically, Irish clocks are different to every other clock in the world.

THE AUCTION
This week’s programme comes from Larry O’Keeffe’s Auction Rooms in Clonmel, Co. Tipperary. Larry has over twenty years experience in the valuation and sale of antique furniture and effects.  Auctions are held on a regular basis in his auction rooms on Davis Road.
