Episode 16
Sunday 27th January
Ken calls Dermot and asks him to meet up in McCoys. Dermot convinces Jo he needs to meet Ken alone so they can have a rational discussion.
Jimmy reveals to the lads in the garage that he’s with Ali as he makes a point of kissing her in front of them.
Dermot fails to change Ken’s mind when he meets him. He tells Dermot that Deirdre is his mother and she wants to bring him up. Dermot begs him to reconsider but to no avail.
Dolores invites Father Thaddeus around for dinner.
Feeling helpless, Jo leaves the house and goes to get Benjamin on her own without Dermot’s knowledge, but realising where she’s gone, he follows her.
Jimmy and Ali brave a night in McCoys. Paul and Ray make the effort and join them, while Bela asks Jimmy if he’s happy and when he says he is, sits down with Ali, who’s obviously relieved.
Jo gets to see Ben, but before she can hold him Deirdre tells Ken to close the door. Ken closes the door, leaving Jo screaming for her baby outside, and Dermot comforting her.
Episode 17
Tuesday 29th January
Ken is worried when Ben begins to show signs of missing Dermot and Jo and refuses to eat.
Niamh arranges a business dinner with a potential new client and has to cancel plans she had made with Keith in the process, and he’s none too impressed as Ray has roped him into helping Una move apartments.
Suzanne does some research and discovers that facilities for stroke patients in Ireland aren’t widely available. She tells Bela that if Rita had had a brain scan earlier she might have avoided her extreme deterioration.
Dolores entertains Enda and Father Thaddeus to dinner and they all enjoy the evening hugely.
Jo and Dermot meet with a barrister about their situation. They are advised that if Deirdre challenges them in court, they have no legal rights to Benjamin and Dermot could be prosecuted for falsifying Ben’s birth certificate.
Episode 18
Wednesday 30th January
Suzanne quizzes a doctor in the hospital about Rita’s treatment. She discovers that, yes, if Rita had gotten treatment quicker her rate of recovery could have been quicker, but that she is getting very good treatment as she is.
Ray buys a bouquet of flowers for Una to wish her luck in her new job. He gets Keith to sign the card too and drops them into her.
Una notices that Catriona seems to have a crush on Keith when she is asking him to bring her for a driving lesson. Catriona denies it though.
Bela is furious when Suzanne tells him that Rita could have gotten a scan quicker if she had been brought to a treatment centre for acute strokes. Bela confronts one of the doctors who arranges to talk to him tomorrow.
Jo admits to Mags the truth about Benjamin’s background. Mags is shocked but tells her that her and Dermot would have the support of the community so they should tell people what Deirdre is doing. Dermot disagrees however and tells Jo and Mags that if Deirdre is backed into a corner, she could just leave, and take Benjamin with her.
Una’s boss buys her a drink after her first day, and is happy with how she got on. He seems to be quite taken with her.
Mark and Roisin go to the cinema, and share a kiss as they walk home together.
Ken tries to reassure Deirdre when she struggles to bond with Benjamin, but it’s obvious he’s not sure how to react about the whole situation.
Episode 19
Thursday 31st January
Dermot arranges to meet Orla, in the hope that she can talk some sense into Deirdre.
Damien takes much enjoyment out of slagging Mark about his date with Roisin last night.
Mags tells Suzanne she should have a chat with Bela as he’s obviously very angry about Rita’s treatment. He has a go at Dermot when he meets him about the lack of proper care.
Dermot meets Orla in McCoys but she isn’t very receptive to his suggestion that she talks to Deirdre for him. She tells him she doesn’t want to get involved but agrees to think about it.
Deirdre tells Ken that Ben could do with some company so he asks Geraldine can Owen come over. When he explains what’s going on Ger tells him that she doesn’t want Owen going over there and that Deirdre shouldn’t be putting Benjamin through the stress that she is.
Jo sees Deirdre with Ben on the street but Deirdre puts him into a car before Jo can see him properly. She tells him she loves him through the window but is extremely upset by what happened. Dermot comforts her and tells her that Orla will definitely speak to Deirdre for them.
Bela talks to Suzanne about the lack of proper care for acute stroke patients. Suzanne tries to talk him down and tells him that they need to concentrate on getting Rita home first and then they can think about what to do.
Orla calls to see Deirdre. She tells her she’s not sure that she’s doing the right thing, but Deirdre tells her that her baby Lucy never got the chance to even cry so she’s not letting Benjamin go.
