10.00pm The Sunday Sequence
LEFT BRAIN / RIGHT BRAIN
Today it is recognised that we all have a range of intelligences – emotional, artistic, logical, linguistic – but all too often we end up working in jobs that require us to use only very specific parts of our brain. The received wisdom is that the arts use the right side of the brain and the sciences use the left, and rarely the twain shall meet.
Programme 4: The Music of the Spheres.
Composers have long been fascinated by the planets; from Holst’s eponymous work to Irish composer Linda Buckley whose 2004 composition, Do You Remember The Planets? was inspired by the ancient concept of the music of the spheres.  In the final programme of the series, Mary Mulvihill explores this concept, starting with the ancient Greek philosophers when science and art were one and the same thing, and music was considered a branch of science.
