NUALA JACKSON ON RTÉ RADIO 1 SERIES: EXPERIENCE

The second in the eight part series, entitled Experience, will be broadcast on Tuesday 15 January at 10.02pm on RTÉ Radio 1. This programme will feature Nuala Jackson a former Ursuline Nun and founder of revolutionary school XLC (The External Learning Community Project School).

Nuala continued her teaching career and taught in Waterpark College for many years after leaving the Ursuline order. After retiring she founded XLC, a school dedicated to helping students get through their Junior and Leaving Certificates in an environment that fosters respect towards each and every student as an individual. Initially the school was founded to meet a gap in the system for students who were disillusioned with the rigid, impersonal school system they found themselves in. Many of the students had been suspended or expelled or had dropped out of school.

Nuala and her team have been amazingly successful in bringing these students through to achieve great exam results and a new attitude to learning with their unique approach. She is well known for her dedication to education in the city.

Nuala is married with four grown up children Finola, Eoghan, Michelle and Clodagh. She has one grandson, Kevin. She lives in Brownstown on the Waterford coastline.
In this interview Nuala speaks candidly about her life story: her marriage, her life as a nun and the school she founded.

Jacqui Corcoran is the presenter and producer of Experience.
