Summer Pride was a local GAA series originally made and transmitted on RTÉ back in 1995. As part of the series RTÉ Television travelled the length and breadth of the country visiting GAA clubs big and small, interviewing local commentators, trainers and players – many of whom have become the GAA stars of today.

In 1995 Gweedore Gaelic Football club was experiencing lean times, in fact the club hadn’t won a county championship in 34 years. Set up in 1932, the club were frequent club championship winners until 1961.

Timlin Ó Cearnaigh, a former club chairman; Alan Ó Baoid, then current chairman; Shaun Ó Gallachóir, then senior captain and Seosamh Ó Duibhir, then youth coach; all give their thoughts on the reasons for the downturn in Gweedore’s football fortunes. These ranged from renewed prosperity in the area and emigration, to the growth in popularity of soccer. Alan also speaks of his hopes for the Bórd na nÓige that had recently been set up. This aimed to foster the young talent available in the area and maintain it to senior level.
