This week, financial expert Eddie Hobbs returns to Athlone to catch up with Tom & Trisha Barry.
The couple got married in May 2005. Their big day out added to the couples’ big pile of debt. Trisha was a barmaid on a modest wage and Tom was a cabbie with no idea of his income. They couldn’t afford to repay their debts and their creditors – no surprise – had lost all patience.
Eddie arrived in Athlone to solve the mystery of the vanishing cash – if Tom and Trisha were both working so hard so why were they broke? The root of the problem was Tom’s taxi business – Eddie helped Tom to cut costs and raise profits, he also helped the couple to restructure their debt at better interest rates. Eighteen months later Eddie’s back to see whether the financial makeover had a long-lasting effect.
