Fleadh Cheoil is a new six part series from the Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann  – held in late summer 2006 in Letterkenny, Co. Donegal – Ireland’s largest traditional music festival.

Presented by Pat Butler and Breda Smyth, the second programme features local well known fiddle players Mairéad Ní Maonaigh and Ciaran Ó Mhaonaigh, young musicians Edel Fox and Ronan Browne, and flute player David Sheridan along with John McCartain

The series reflects the free flowing music weekend in Letterkenny featuring the spontaneous sessions on the streets and in every pub in town, as well as looking at the serious side of the festival through the All Ireland music competition finals, and at Scoil Eigse where young musicians from many countries attend week long music workshops.

For 55 years traditional musicians and those who love traditional music have been coming together for a great happening that is Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann.

The Fleadh which is staged by Comhaltas Ceoltoirí Éireann has grown into one of the biggest outdoor music events in Europe and the 55th staging of Fleadh makes it one of the longest running music festivals in the world.
