Russ Duritz is a wealthy image consultant living in Los Angeles. Russ is approaching his 40th birthday and in analysing his life realizes he’s cynical, lonely and drifting. He doesn’t have a woman in his life, he’s estranged from his father, and he has no childhood memories. One night he startles an intruder in his home, who turns out to be an 8-year-old chubby kid, called Rusty, who looks strangely familiar. The kid’s identity sparks a journey into Russ’s past in an attempt to find the key moment that has defined the man that Russ has become.

When Sammy’s boyfriend proposes, the relationship with her boss takes an unexpected turn, and her brother and son bond things start to get very complicated.
