RTÉ RADIO 1 DOMINATES TOP 10 RADIO PROGRAMMES

Strategic schedule changes for RTÉ Radio 1 and RTÉ lyric fm have boosted audiences for the stations according to the JNLR figures released today (Thursday 15 February).  The figures cover the period January to December 2006.

Speaking on behalf of RTÉ Radio, Ana Leddy, Head of RTÉ Radio 1 welcomed the figures saying;

“I am very pleased that the strategic changes we have introduced on both RTÉ Radio 1 and RTÉ lyric fm have had an immediate effect, attracting new listeners and growing audiences.  This is the beginning of a creative process which I’m confident will continue to deliver results for RTÉ Radio”.

The highlights for RTÉ Radio include:

• RTÉ Radio holds the Top 10 national radio programmes.
 
• RTÉ Radio 1 and RTÉ 2fm are the Top 2 national radio stations, in terms of reach and share on weekdays and weekends amongst all listeners over 15 yrs

• Marian Finucane has yet again increased her weekend audiences, with an additional 20,000 listeners tuning in on Saturdays

• Liveline is now the 2nd most popular programme in the country with 333,000 listeners and Morning Ireland retains its no. 1 position with a massive 442,000 listeners

• Eamon Dunphy’s new programme, Conversations with Dunphy, has gone straight into the Top 10 with 248,000 listeners

• The new Mooney programme has made a strong start with positive indications that RTÉ Radio 1’s afternoon audience is on the increase

• Head to head Drivetime with Mary Wilson and Drivetime Sport with Des Cahill are outperforming other national programmes

• News at One continues to deliver huge audiences for RTÉ Radio 1

• Growth in the morning for RTÉ 2fm with the Gerry Ryan’s show listenership on the increase

• Will Leahy’s Saturday Show continues to be the most popular show in the country for 15 to 34 year olds paving the way for his move to weekdays

• RTÉ lyric fm performed strongly all round, increasing its national reach and share with programmes including John Kelly’s JK Ensemble and Sunday Serenade with Gay Byrne gaining listeners.
