This week Ear to the Ground reports on the upcoming Farm Machinery Show; a novel way of using chocolate to help your garden grow; plus a new initiative on farm safety which hopes to reduce fatalities. RTÉ’s popular rural affairs programme is presented by Maeve Dineen, Helen Carroll and Darragh McCullough.

FARM MACHINERY SHOW
When it comes to toys for boys, the upcoming Farm Machinery Show in Punchestown packs some serious muscle! On display are the biggest, most powerful and most productive farm machines in the country. Ear to the Ground heads to the bi-annual Farm Machinery Show to see what’s on offer this year.

THE SWEET SIDE OF FARMING
We love our chocolate in this country but who would have thought that our gardens do too! Norman Bradley, a tillage farmer in Co. Carlow, seized the opportunity to give a waste product a second life. He now has a growing business and the gardens around Carlow are thriving as well.

FARM SAFETY
Currently farming is the most dangerous occupation in the country with more than 15 deaths a year. A new safety initiative launched by Teagasc aims to tackle the appalling level of fatalities on our farms. Ear to the Ground looks at what small changes on a farm can make a difference while Maeve Dineen asks the question, “Is it too little too late?”
